ECEMP 2024: The Return to Brussels

The European Climate and Energy Modelling Platform (ECEMP) 2024 conference convened in Brussels and online from October 16-17, 2024, bringing together leading researchers, policymakers, and experts to discuss crucial developments in climate and energy modeling for achieving Europe’s climate neutrality goals. The two-day hybrid event, co-hosted by several European Commission Directorates-General including Energy, Climate Action, and Research and Innovation, featured comprehensive discussions on policy-relevant research and cutting-edge modeling developments.

The first day focused on policies to reach climate neutrality, opening with a plenary session on energy vision scenarios for Europe that included insights from prominent speakers such as Jan Rosenow and representatives from the EU Commission.

Day two delved into frontiers in energy and climate modeling, with particular emphasis on model inter-operability and data needs. The conference’s parallel sessions covered a wide range of critical topics, from building sector decarbonization and industrial transitions to energy scenarios for the Global South and GHG emission targets. A notable feature was the inclusion of specialized tracks examining energy challenges in Africa and detailed skill-building workshops.

The event demonstrated the vital role of energy and climate models in charting Europe’s path toward a carbon-neutral future while emphasizing the importance of cross-sector collaboration and data-driven decision-making in achieving climate goals.

Details on the  ECEMP 2025 edition will be announced in February 2025, so stay tuned!
